THE BLACK LEGACY DINNER CELEBRATES PRESIDENTIAL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOREE FOR INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY ACADEMY IN WASHINGTON DURING 202 CREATES MONTH

Owner of Wanda’s Hair Salon expands her footprint into Ward 8 which will offer licensing and training opportunities for barbers and beauticians

WASHINGTON

(September 15. 2024) – 2023 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, Wanda Henderson hosts The Black Legacy Dinner, a private chef benefit on September 26 at The National Union Building in Washington, DC.

The benefit celebrates business ownership and legacy makers across the District. Henderson who is known for her salon on 7th St NW, recently acquired approximately 2000 sq ft of additional space in Ward 8 to open a cosmetology school in Anacostia. Her 1 million dollar investment into the community will offer licensing, skills training and career advancement opportunities for barbers and beauticians.

“I wanted to give back to my community by creating a beauty barbering school. I will be able to teach students of Ward 8 as well as internationally - creating future entrepreneurs is my way of giving back,” said Henderson.

Henderson has graced the Shaw/Howard neighborhood with Wanda’s on 7th Hair Salon for more than 20 years. Prior to that, Mr. Robert Dean owned the location solely as a barbershop, for 40 years. In the 2017 Smithsonian feature article, Henderson shares how the shop already had quite a legacy that has served music legends including Duke Ellington and Nat King Cole.

The Black Legacy Dinner will bring together DC socialites and community builders to begin the campaign raise of 50,000.00 for the cause. The evening includes art displays by local and international artists as well as a private chef experience from executive chef Ron Reid, celebrity chefs Darrell Stokes and Sheen Ricks, as well as Chef Chi.

Tickets for The Black Legacy Dinner are available now. For more information on the event, participating chefs, and ticketing details, visit bit.ly/BlackLegacyDinner2024.
