WASHINGTON (April 19, 2022) – Local businesses across the country collaborate with Instructional Gym in anticipation of Teacher Appreciation Week taking place from May 2 - 6.
Educators are underpaid, burnout, and lack administrative support across the District. Instructional Gym raises awareness alongside fellow educators and school leaders on Teacher Appreciation Day. Parents, community members and local businesses that champion education are also spreading the word. One of which is Tiffany Lightfoot, a mother and the owner of My Cake Theory bakery and winner of Food Network’s HOLIDAY WARS. From the struggles to the good moments and everything in between, education is a community issue that helps to create a solid foundation for society.
“We are in constant acknowledgment of the vital and intrinsic role educators play in the community and society as a whole so we are thrilled to have support from local businesses that acknowledge the work of those on the front lines of education,” said Teresa Lasley
As part of the Teacher Appreciation Week celebration this year, Instructional Gym hosts a series of Instagram Lives with teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector. Educators across the country are in conversation around the impact, struggles and joys of being a teacher in today’s climate as well as how to combat the ever-present threat of burnout.
Companies that have taken part include Latishia Jordan, co-founder of the fastest growing black-owned online school, Achieve Success Tutoring, Ayesis Clay, CEO and Founder of Sculpted Clay Productions LLC as well as Dr. Gloria Pope, Executive Director of Collin Allen Child Development Center and Director of Educational Enrichment at Destination Tomorrow.
Lasley will also host an exclusive celebration for school leaders and teachers at My Cake Theory located at 325 7th St SE Washington, DC 20003 from 4pm - 7pm. Guests will receive complimentary cupcakes and champagne.
